BETA TESTING PHASE NOW RUNNING
Check out our under-18 site for student use here!
We are excited to announce the first-ever aggregate of major book reviews, combining family-friendly sources alongside secular organizations. This allows you to compare them side-by-side and decide whom to trust.
One Index, Two Ways to Use It:
Our database contains over 17,000 titles that have been reviewed, challenged, or removed from schools across the nation. We designed a unique system that allows children to find good books while giving parents the data to vet the bad ones.
For Kids (The Public Interface):
-
Completely Safe: Located on the homepage of a separate website, anyone can search a title to check its rating without a login.
-
Sanitized Results: We use a manually assigned formula to generate a generic safety rating (all ages, juvenile advisory, youth advisory, youth restricted, adults only & deviant content).
-
Locked Down: No explicit descriptions, no "steam" levels, and no outbound links will work. Kids cannot click through to mature content.
For Parents (The Member Interface):
-
Full Transparency: Log in to see detailed reports with profanity count, and explicit content warnings.
-
Removal Tracking: See if a book has been removed from districts like Davis, UT or Brenham, TX, and access PDF reports to use for challenges.
-
Source Comparison: View ratings from Plugged In, The Good and the Beautiful, Kirkus, BookLooks and RatedBooks side-by-side.
Family Memberships:
Once fully rolled out, our index will be on a separate site away from the explicit reports available on RatedBooks. To keep these details behind a secure gate, we are charging a monthly membership (est. $10/monthly or $50/year).
This resource reduces staff research time, supports policy-compliant decisions, and provides a multiple-perspective approach to evaluating books. Customizable solutions include white-labeling and index integration into library systems so parents can opt their children out based on ratings and reviews. Pricing starts at $399/yr for small institutions, $999/yr for mid-sized institutions and $2,999/yr for large institutions.
*Note: User is solely responsible for determining the tax status of payments collected and compliance with IRS regulations regarding charitable solicitations. This Lifetime Membership is for individual and family use. A separate license for Schools and Libraries is coming soon. Contact Aaron@sandsapps.com to learn more about licensing opportunities for schools and libraries. The Index is a product of S&S Apps, LLC, licensed to RatedBooks.org.
